Local Mission Partners
We have 2 closely affiliated charities which began life as ministries of St George's.
St George’s Crypt
St George’s Crypt is a Christian homeless charity. It was started in 1930 by Don Robins (then Rector of St George’s). It is based in the refurbished crypt of the church, but has grown to include supported housing across Leeds.
Lighthouse West Yorkshire
Lighthouse is a community for those battered and bruised by the storms of life. It meets in St George’s Crypt for a Sunday service and meal, and during the week in St George’s Church and other locations across Leeds.
We also have 3 other local mission partners. We support them with prayer and finance, and church members volunteer as trustees and in many other ways.
KidzKlub
Kidzklub works in Leeds to love and support children, reaching about 2,000 children with fun, safe activities, building strong relationships, and passing on an empowering Christian message.
Fusion
Fusion are committed to championing a worldwide movement of student mission, through connecting students with local churches and encouraging and training churches in student ministry and mission.
Leeds Faith in Schools
Leeds Faith in Schools exists to be good news to the high schools of Leeds, with youth workers working across 19 high schools and academies.
Jason & Rachel: Operation Mobilisation (OM)
Jason and Rachel and their two children live overseas and work with a cross-cultural OM team, many of whom are believers from a Muslim Background. The team specialises in making the Bible and Bible teaching resources available via the internet, television, phone and radio to people in a part of the world where there is strong opposition to the Gospel and where getting hold of a Bible has been difficult at best.
Tim & Rachel: Serving in Mission & CURE International, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Tim is an orthopaedic surgeon working at the CURE hospital doing children’s reconstructive surgery. Rachel is busy with family medicine training leadership, school governor work and help with the graduate and undergraduate Christian Medical Fellowship groups. They have 3 children.
Overseas Mission Partners
At St George’s we support 4 overseas mission partners. We regularly hear about and pray for our mission partners in our Sunday services and prayer meetings.
Jonathan and Laura: Wycliffe Bible Translators, Leeds
Jonathan and Laura are co-managing a Bible translation project for a minority language of the Fertile Crescent region (spoken by over 2 million people). They also work in EthnoArts, helping people to use their indigenous art forms to internalise God’s word, grow as disciples and share the gospel.
Hugh and Heather: World Horizons, Japan
Hugh and Heather pastor a church in Nirayama of about 15 baptised believers plus other friends, and lead ‘Happy Clubs’ where children learn English and hear a short Bible message. They have recently bought a building in Heda, with a view to reaching the Izu Peninsula. Hugh and Heather have 2 sons, Tomo and Jun.
Short term overseas mission trips
